Too many events
NOTE: This is not a flame or complaint thread, though I may be rather harsh in my speach. It is simply a feedback thread.
We have now had over 4 weekends STRAIGHT were there has been some kind of event. We have used them to our advantage, we have ignored them, we have compained about them. I am now wondering, why do we need to have them so much?
At first I though they were just going to have the NPE right after the double PvP event to get people in the mood for PvP. Now, they have continued to have events, from double Elite missions, to "better" chest drops all over. I am frankly getting sick of it.
Why you might ask? Why not?
These events cause HUGE disturbances in areas where they effect, they cause the number of districts to shoot to ridiculous amounts. The areas get flooded with players, and end up becoming lag pools, because the servers can't handle the sudden loads.
They seem to have little benefit, either than the "fun" that you may have (oh yes, PUGing in the Deep was REALLY fun).
And the worst part, they seem to always introduce some new bug that sits around unattended for weeks.
I don't know about everyone else, but I think it's about time they just let us have our plain old weekends back.
Edit: To clarify, I don't want the events gone forever, I want them to be less often, maybe every other weekend, or evey third weekend.
Edit 2: This quote of myself may help to clarify things;

I have clearly stated, at least twice already, that I don't want the events gone, I want them reduced. Constant events may seem good to some of you, but other people want to just have a plain weekend.
One of the biggest issues I have is that, if I try to ignore the event, it's not made very easy. Large masses of people will flood into areas for the event, and completely ignore normal areas. I might have wanted to do Thunderhead Keep or Raisu Palace this weekend, but I can't because most people are doing the event, and many of the people left aren't good enough.

Personally, I like many others I know out there have gotten to a point where boredom in game comes a bit easier than it used to. The events have at least given incentive to go out and still do things, which is kind of nice.
I know there are those that complain about how the updates affected the economy, but honestly, the market was always a pain to sell anything even before the price drops. If anything the drop in market prices made it more reasonable for people to buy rare items instead of just grabbing collector items with perfect mods or snatching a green, which I thought was a general improvement.
As for the Elite Weekend, I actually enjoyed being able to do Deep runs with guildies and characters that couldn't reach it previously because they had not gotten that far in Factions. There were a lot of really ignorant people who did make creating a working PuG a bit difficult, but I found that there were plenty of inexperienced players out there who were patient enough to listen to the builds and pull them off as needed. I did encounter a slightly lower success rate with the PuGs I was in, but compared to the number of runs I went on since I was inspired to do them made up for this, and I enjoyed the weekend as a whole.
What it boils down to is that as this game progresses, steps are needed to be taken to maintain the interest of the players. A-net is clearly attempting to keep us happy for which I am grateful.

the only event I did was one run in the elite weekend
It does kind of feel like all the events have destroyed the "specialness" of all events short of a campaign preview or possibly holiday event
too much of a good thing?

Once every while is ok but I think Anet is putting a few too many. If they kept the good ones for the weekends, and the less cool ones(say keys drop 25-50% more often) could go for a week so people (eg in Australia) can have better, more conveinient times. It's like, half way through my weekend the cool stuff starts and I only get helf the time other people get cos im at school

Well alright. In my PoV, special event weekends are the best thing to happen to GW since Sorrow's Furnace. It's like candy. Now I haven't taken full advantage of any of these weekends so far, but it's nice to have some dynamic events happen in such a static world.
Honestly, I wish they would have some more little storyline blurbs here and there like they did in Kryta before Factions came out. Give us some special quests every once in a while. Would be fun, I think.
Not to mention, they are also trying a little bit harder to prove they don't favor PvP over PvE and vice-versa. It's geared to make everyone happy while not messing up too much of the things we're used to.
Really, I don't see any problem with 'laggy servers' because of mass influx of people. Nor is there any problems with full districts (just select the last district or go International, there's rarely anyone there except bots & chinese farmers). Not to mention, you don't have to involve yourself with these events if you don't want to. IMHO, those are weak cop-outs and appears to be grasping at straws for something to complain about.

I never said anything about the enconomy, mostly because I really don't care how much something costs.
About the boredom factor, maybe it IS time you took a break from Guild Wars. I find that if I go play some other types of games (like an FPS) I will be able to play Guild Wars for longer afterwards.
Also, do you have over 90 elite skills on all of your characters? How about 100% of both maps uncovered? If you answered either of those as no, I see no way that you could have nothing to do.
The main issue is that they are having too many events all at once. There has been an event every weekend. I think it would be better if they put some time between the events, so that they can focus more on bugs, glitches, game balance issues, as well as making the events properly structured.

Sorry you say your not complaining, but you are. You complaining about lag
I for one don't understand your logic, events are good thing!
I think a little bit of lag in some of the towns is a small price to pay for keeping the game fresh and interesting till Nightfall comes out in a couple of months time.
If there was no events, there be nothing much to do. Besides you don't have to join in the events if you don't want you.
When a.net don't do anything, people complain. When they do host events like this, people complain.
Is there just no pleasing people?

Guild Wars is becoming Stale in this mid-campaign release time. Just listening to the community will tell you that. The popular WoC Radio show Wednesday was practically bogged down by negativity concerned with these times for example.
Factions shot under their expectations. Nightfall is being looked at in a less than optimistic outlook.
These events, too me, seem like a way that Anet can say "Hey, We promise Nightfall will just amaze everyone in how well we have come in this, but we know that for some this can be long wait through a stale GvG season and with PvE and HA reduced to a handful of builds farming so to keep the flavor of doing new things alive until we can amaze you with Nightfall - Here are weekend events to change things up til then, and we hope that most will stay through these troubled times."
My own words of course.
These events have each week targeted areas that can pass a persons time and keep them in the game. Drawing people into the Elite Missions which take hours to complete, Drawing people to the arenas that are otherwise not given the attention of higher level pvp combat, Drawing people into the time consuming Chest Runs that make you explore the land and view farming as more than just kill troll 1 kill troll 2, And now drawing people into Competitive Missions that are otherwise Stale with the same leechers and boring strategy and underpopulated districts. All showing people things in the game that were underused beforehand to keep interest in the game.
It'll pay off in the end for them if they end up delivering with Nightfall.
EDIT: various spelling and wording things.

I love how people can't seem to hold in their anger, or whatever it is they're expressing. The point of this thread is to express ideas and opinions, not yell at people.
I simply am saying that they are kind of going overboard with this. Sure we like events, but do we need so many?
I think anyone would get annoyed if suddenly everyone in the world started acting nice to them. It would get boring after a while and you would get suspicious, or just really want someone to say something negative about you. (best parrallel I could think of right now)
As I have said before, I don't want events abolished (you would see that if you read my first post), maybe the title is what you dislike.
